Family can be a touchy subject for many people, and Indian families are no exception to the rule.
I’ve noticed that the usual pattern is as follows, couple has child, child grows up, child and parents fight, child decides to become independent, child leaves parents behind to pursue their own life, parents and child separate, child grows old and has their own family, parents become even older and pass away, child regrets the decisions they made, child lives with the regret and the cycle continues with them becoming the parents and so on.
I don’t like this.
In reality no one is truly independent. On a human basis, if you're in business you depend on the people that make your business profitable, if you work for someone else, you depend on that company to take care of you.
(Of course we all depend on God to live every single day, but I want to tackle to human aspect of this)
Dependency has been warped and manipulated by higher powers within our society in order to convince us that you either are dependent and weak or independent and strong.
When in reality independence is just an illusion, but to get to that illusion you have to destroy the easiest path to true power and growth and that is co-dependence.
We all start out dependent on others, and we believe the way we grow is to become independent, but in reality it’s to become co-dependent, growing together, protecting each other, helping one another.
When a family decides to become co-dependent they become a force of nature, not to be messed with.
This is one of the reasons why I am a huge advocate for families growing together rather than growing separately.
Not everyone will agree, and that is because not everyone has an amazing family like I do, but I don’t think that means one should dismiss the opportunity to grow together with their family.
Family is a messy thing, and once we can accept that and decide that despite the problems we will still move forward together, it becomes much easier for us to prioritize the right things and move towards a future that is worth living.
To help you implement this let me share what I do to achieve this in my daily walk.
Everyday when ever I am faced with a situation I look at our family creed and values:
We value the relationships we have with our family. (Being right is not as important as the relationship)
We value the health of the individuals in our family. (Our rule is, you are not allowed to die under the age of 90, if your above it you can go but you are not allowed if you are under)
We value family in the context of the Kingdom of God. (Our responsibility is to steward each other's lives and help each other on our daily walks with God, not being a stumbling block but rather a protective shield.)
We value time with our loved ones. (Time is the substance by which life is made of, we want to spend that substance with the ones we love)
We value Legacy. (Our actions should be paving the way for our future generations, financially, spiritually, physically and intellectually, weather that’s accumulating books for them, building a business for their inheritance, buying land, or establishing a good foundation in our local church, we are preparing the way for them when they arrive)
Feel free to take these 5 values and make it your own. Family is one of the most influential vehicles on planet earth and this is by design of the creator.
When a family builds together, it results in their efforts compounding, building upon prior generations' efforts, resulting in better, more influential lives to be lived.
I hope this message has inspired you to take your growth as a family with more intentionality and to prioritize what truly matters in life.
